The city of Zell, from ancient times the main city of the Zeller Hamm, is located at the Eastern apex of the very symmetrically formed bend of the Moselle on the small river shore. Behind it, the wine covered hills quickly rise up to the woods where the higher plain of the Hunsrück begins.
The small market place is the center of the city. It has the fountain on which the trademark of the wines from Zell is located, the "Schwarze Katz".
